On Vineyard Sound
June 24, 2016 Elm City Records released The Ben Verdery Guitar Project: On Vineyard Sound.The album features Verdery performing music by his composer colleagues at Yale University's School of Music, where he is Associate Professor of Guitar and Artistic Director of the biennial Yale Guitar Extravaganza. These featured composers include Martin Bresnick, Aaron Jay Kernis, Ezra Laderman, David Lang, Hannah Lash, Christopher Theofanidis, Jack Vees, and Verdery himself. In addition, the album features guest performers Rie Schmidt on flute and Vees on pedal steel guitar. As with his widely praised past discography, On Vineyard Sound showcases Verdery performing on a variety of guitars, ranging from Fender Stratocaster and steel string to baritone and classical.
This is the third movement of Martin Bresnick's beautiful work Joaquin is Dreaming published by Carl Fisher. It will appear on my forthcoming CD entitled The Ben Verdery Guitar Project, On Vineyard Sound. The CD be will released digitally next month on Elm City Records.
